Brian T. Jones
Being an illustrator coming out of Otis College of Art and Design, Brian T. Jones caught a break that not many receive so early in their careers – he illustrated Emmy Award winning writer Tom Dunsmuir's new children's book “You Can't Milk a Dancing Cow.” The book's release offered him additional opportunities as a freelance illustrator doing flash animation, newspaper illustration and character design; however, he also knew that he would have to continue to be aggressive marketing his talents.
Enter Agency Access. “In order to be a successful illustrator you have to market yourself,” says Jones. “What Agency Access has offered me is a chance to put my work in front of companies that have jobs to offer. It really has opened up new lines for many different opportunities.”
Jones says it was easy to get started using Agency Access' e-mails and the company was very helpful in working with him to make sure his first e-mail would be successful.
“I use the Agency Access marketing services, but I do my own design,” he says. “My contact at Agency Access shows me examples from other successful campaigns they have managed and they give me good feedback on my own promotional materials.”
And, the move provided immediate benefits. “The day my first e-mailer went out I got a call from the Mazer Corporation with an offer to illustrate an educational reader that paid for the cost of advertising,” says Jones. “I really enjoyed my first job and I currently am preparing my first physical mailer that should be set to go out very soon. If you want to get jobs you have to let art buyers know you're out there.”
Jones adds that although he is relatively new to Agency Access (having just signed up in December 2007) and the services they offer, he is extremely pleased with his results.
“I am rather new to this type of promotion, but Agency Access has a thorough system of creating lists and tracking prospects who show interest in my work,” he says. “There is a very small community of companies that offer illustrators opportunities and I feel it is important to link yourself with these groups and Agency Access provides the perfect vehicle to get your work in front of the groups who are hiring.“
